As a stay at home mother of a toddler, my family has the flexibility to visit Disney during some of the less crowded seasons. Summer is guaranteed to be busy and crowded, not to mention HOT, so we typically don’t visit between mid-May-September. The cooler weather, along with awesome fall events and runDisney races have us visiting frequently between October-April. So far, we have 5 upcoming trips planned, with our first one starting this weekend!
This trip will be to celebrate Halloween and the Food & Wine Festival. Sadly, we will be missing the Wine & Dine race, but we will be back at the end of November/beginning of December for the Christmas party, Candlelight Processional, Holidays Around the World, and Osborn Lights. In case you haven’t heard, this will be the last year for the famous Christmas light display at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. I’m sure my husband is bummed that he won’t be running through them at the Wine & Dine Half Marathon this year, but we will at least get to see them one last time.
Then, in January, we pick back up with runDisney with Marathon Weekend, followed by the Princess Half Marathon in February and the new Star Wars Half Marathon in April. If only we could find a reason to come in March…;-)
Our trip is all planned out for next week, starting with a visit to Universal Studios for Halloween Horror Nights. I know what you’re thinking: “WHAT?!?! You’re not spending the entire week at Disney???” No, we actually enjoy both Universal and Disney and are
annual pass holders at both parks. In fact, we are staying at Universal’s Cabana Bay Resort in a family suite. This means we won’t be able to take advantage of Extra Magic Hours at Disney, and we had to wait until a few weeks ago to make our FastPass+ reservations. Yes, it’s a bit of a bummer, but when you go as often as we do, it’s okay that we don’t get to see Anna and Elsa or ride 7 Dwarfs Mine Train. We still get free parking at the parks as part of our annual passes, but I won’t be able to head back to the resort early and have my husband take a bus back after he’s done taking pictures.
For this trip, I’m looking forward to the great Halloween events we’ll be doing, as well as seeing the new changes to Pirates of the Caribbean and trying out the new menu at Pecos Bill’s. Oh, and let’s not forget about the Food & Wine Festival!!
